Gene - the rater of either 3.0 or 4.0,

The Velvet Underground Loaded
The one where Velvet's sweet tunes get drawn out every single time in order to linger on some more on that cozy vibe they bring.
4.0

FFS FFS
Not sure how was this possible that both Sparks and Franz Ferdinand sound distinct here and do not compromise their styles in any way and somehow come off complimentary to each other.

Muse The 2nd Law
On this one, Muse make a fucktonne of singles heavy tracks that make sense standalone, but feel like a loosely connected playlist together. All of that is wrapped in a bizarre package of misinformed and ill-inspired contemporaneous wobble apparition of dubstep. Plus, despite the several fun and infectious songs, this may have the most vapid of their lyrics ever, meaning nothing, going nowhere. At least their dumbest political takes have a motivation behind them. Yikes: the album.

Muse Simulation Theory
Bizarrely enough, this is not the most jarring or unexpected direction Muse have taken since 20uuuh. The push for neon vomit is more in tune with the overall trajectory of their downfall. And yet it works for their whole, umm, shtick. Throw in a few surprisingly catchy tunes and you got yourself a highlight of Muse's mid-low era.

Crack Cloud Pain Olympics
A little indulgent, but definitely creative and skilled release rife with fun ideas, even if they are often drawn out into tiresome lengths or get a while to really pick up.

Massive Attack Protection
Massive Attack's middle child that got the least amount of love from both the artist and the audience (we don't count the post 90s releases). The duo is banking on a chilled out, largely barebones cosmetics, muffled mix, prioritising vibes over workable writing.
2.5

Amen Dunes Death Jokes
Amen Dunes releases a largely repetitive, boring, whiny album with occasionally admirable bursts of humour and self-awareness, but never one directed at its own structure and monotony.

  • FurtherDown Yeah could be. I just listened to Ida's new single and it brings quite interesting electronic twist to the table. Great track!

  • FurtherDown Hey, massive thanks for the promo work of our new Manon Meurt record here on sput! What will be next czechdream record to make a splash here? I'm expecting big things from Ida the Young debut which will come out this year hopefully. And last week I saw Favorite Obsession who are also fresh out of the studio. Any others? :)
