DoofDoof 05.28.24	I was cleaning out this brick outhouse at the end of our garden, the old fella who lived (and died) in this house before we bought it used it as a real work station thing, so I guess up to now it's been a bit of a 'living museum' and out of a sort of respect we left it mostly how we found it. Been here nearly ten years now, the time has come and we need more storage too, so I did the works, put on a face mask (lots of old rat poisons, mouse droppings, etc) on a hot Saturday, and just worked through the whole thing over about four or five hours. The whole time I just listened to John Martyn albums and it was just such an enjoyable experience...and I thought 'just playing one artist all day is sometimes what I want', I think it's a really natural way for me to listen to a band I want to get to know more these days, can imagine me feeling like that four or five days a month maybe. Anyway, we'll try this approach hmmm.

DoofDoof 05.28.24	Cheers Zak, yeah I think this is how I like my listening now. Enjoy newly released stuff but I’m also aware that the other year I got into the legacy acts Richard Thompson, The Church and Jackie Leven after focusing on them and they’ve become all timer bands for me. The way I was going about listening to older stuff wasn’t quite working this year, wasn’t getting that connection.
DoofDoof 05.28.24	DadKF - he’s one of those I’d parked for years and years, liked what I’d heard but also it didn’t quite stand out. Now I'm blown away, I think getting into Ben Howard’s new style has helped me instantly vibe with John Martyn’s sound, he was obviously a huge influence on BH.

DoofDoof 05.28.24	Johnny - I’m impressed so far, obviously you have Nick Drake, Richard Thompson, etc as peers but he could land higher, I like where he heads next from this more traditional folk style. I think he suffers during the ‘80s like most established acts did then but hopefully I’ll try some of that output too.
Mort. 05.28.24	the balance of project/free listening is something im constantly striving for and have always struggled with. I cant deal with total freedom, i get choice paralysis. But concrete 'projects' often feel stifling after a few albums On the other hand, John Martyn is amazing. Ive only heard Solid Hair and Inside Out. If Bless The Weather is as good as everyone says then it appears he had a very strong 3 album run

DoofDoof 05.29.24	Mort - definitely get to Bless the Weather, if you dig Nick Drake at all then that's an essential. Sunny - so far it's my favourite too, Head and Heart maybe my top song by him
Butkuiss 05.29.24	After a decade of trying to focus my listening around new releases/“staying current” I’ve switched tack and spent most of this year doing discog dives on legacy artists and honestly? It’s brought back a lot of my sense of joy when it comes to music. Keeping up with everything felt like such a chore, but having time to really sit with artists has been hugely enjoyable. I’ve got a newfound appreciation for the artists I’ve been spending time with too. It’s rad as balls. I’ve got nothing to say about John Martyn — but this might be a prompt to add him to rotation. Hawks 05.29.24	Man its so hard to balance new stuff with classics or just overlooked gems. I never have been able to find the "right" way tbh I kinda just listen to what my mood suits at that moment lol.
