FearThyEvil
04.23.24 | Obviously missed some here and there for forgetting to include or just straight up not hearing it. I'll admit right away Scarlet and Counterparts are not groups I'm into much of that is. |
Hawks
04.23.24 | Mods feature this. |
FearThyEvil
04.23.24 | Thanks Hawks! Also I did want to add End-Splinters from an Everchanging face but I forgot their site acronym so anyone viewing this list, I'm too lazy to edit, more so out of fear something goes wrong but that would've made it for sure. |
bellovddd
04.23.24 | I miss when underoath were good also. 25 does in deed slap. |
NudeTayne
04.23.24 | damn I have a lot to dissect and check out here |
Futures
04.23.24 | awesome list my man. so much great stuff here and so much variety as well. this is an excellent guide to metalcore for anyone getting deeper into the genre. |
NudeTayne
04.23.24 | Kezia being in the top 30 makes me super hesitant to check out anything below it but I will |
FearThyEvil
04.23.24 | This isn't ranked by any means, Tayne just to let you know. It's completely random |
NudeTayne
04.23.24 | well shit I certainly thought it was ranked by the format |
AsleepInTheBack
04.23.24 | 56 = sauce
Good list nice mix |
FearThyEvil
04.23.24 | I might add a few more albums later on and also had to fix Vein as I picked the wrong album |
Butkuiss
04.23.24 | Lotta good stuff here — props for 77, 71, 44, 32, 28, 23 and 6. |
Zac124
04.23.24 | So many stellar albums on this list and also many I still need to get round to lol. |
jrlikestodance
04.23.24 | Amazing list. You understood the assignment!!! Can't wait to dig through the stuff I don't know. I am with you that You Fail Me is best Converge |
KrillBoi
04.23.24 | Awesome list |
FearThyEvil
04.23.24 | You Fail Me beats Jane Doe but only cuz of the remaster. I do find the songs to be better overall but the original production held it back just a tad bit. |
botb
04.23.24 | 49 is so good and criminally underlooked. Their singer just died this past year so I’m sure they’re done now :( |
FearThyEvil
04.23.24 | Wait the singer died? That's tragic! Such a shame cuz that band ruled |
botb
04.23.24 | Yeah, same dude from hollow earth, not sure what happened but I saw a bunch of people post about it when it did.
On a lighter note, hell yeah fuckin right for the closer love on that within blood |
cylinder
04.23.24 | sick list. check Serration - Simulations of Hell
and Balmora - With Thorns of Glass and Petals of Grief |
VlacDrac
04.23.24 | 28 is a classic. Definitely top 10 Metalcore album for me. |
VlacDrac
04.23.24 | Regarding 29, It's interesting how LOG tried so hard to be something else, it's like they have always been associated with Groove Metal/"NWOAHM" but they will always be a Metalcore band at heart. That and Ashes of the Wake is still their masterpiece. |
Beardog
04.23.24 | Wew. I should probably check everything in this list once lol |
RogueNine
04.23.24 | Didn't know Palm Reader was done. Drat.
Also correct pick for 22. |
ffs
04.23.24 | grea8 list |
bellovddd
04.23.24 | fuck ye END!!!!! |
JDubb
04.23.24 | 57 is one of my favs |
FearThyEvil
04.23.24 | "Didn't know Palm Reader was done. Drat."
That news came just recently like a month or two ago if I'm not mistaken. |
ShapeOfJizzToCum
04.23.24 | Nice Rolo
Horse the Band nice
Fuuuck yes best Destrage album
And that The End album, nice. I randomly had like 2 physical copies of that on CD at the store and they took a billion years to sell of course but I was just surprised to see them at all
not END, but Elementary
Always Open Mouth ye
Shai Hulud based Cave In Based
I'd pick Wrongdoers over that but still NJ good
Top 5 kind of the obvious choices but can't fault them EDIT: Oh it's not ranked nvm
Good list
|
ShapeOfJizzToCum
04.23.24 | People just dropping numbers in comments and making me scroll back and forth WADDYA DOIN COME ONNNNN. It doesn't take that long to type a band name why is this the trend. |
0GuyMan0
04.23.24 | 5 (ETID) - its impossible to choose just one. Hot Damn is like the pinnacle of first-wave metalcore. But the Big Dirty is the same for the second wave lol. Oh but Ex-Lives, FPU, Low Teens and Radical are all contenders for best ETID. wtf was that band.
16 (UNDEROATH) - correct album
17 (UNEARTH) - props and agreed, except I do prefer Mike Justian. TOS is top-5 imo.
22 (NORMA JEAN) - Give me Wrongdoers instead but agreed otherwise. My friends and I worshipped at the altar of OGTA from release all the way until wrongdoers dropped.
29 (LAMB OF GOD) - One of the best modern metal releases imo but not really metalcore
70 (KsE) - literally the GOAT
71 (ALOL) - AGA is outstanding for sure. I'd give Hunter the slight edge. Band needs more love.
78 (ALL THAT REMAINS) - TDH, to me, is vastly overlooked and personally holds a very, very high position on albums from this millennium.
No As I Lay Dying? IMO Shadows are Security is a highlight of the era, absolutely massive album for the scene. |
0GuyMan0
04.23.24 | also agreed on destrage that album came out of nowhere and was amazing.
SHOOT ZOMBIES IN THE FACE! |
maidenpmcc
04.23.24 | Nick Pierce from Unearth has been on the subsequent albums. |
FearThyEvil
04.23.24 | Oh yeah, you're right! I forgot he left AFTER their last album. |
chemicalmarriage
04.24.24 | First 3 LoG albums are the shit |
VlacDrac
04.24.24 | @0GuyMan0 Agree to disagree. LoG always were a Metalcore band masquerading as a Groove Metal one. |
FearThyEvil
04.24.24 | I'll be honest, wasn't expecting LOG to get the most discussion on whether they're metalcore or not when Daughters, Breach, etc are on here. |
Hawks
04.24.24 | Bout 2 jam 57 now! M/// |
Wildcardbitchesss
04.24.24 | GREAT LIST!
I would say you should check out Employed to Serve. Their first two records are borderline masterpieces imo. Early Oathbreaker as well, when this band comes up people typically only mention Rheia, it’s by far their most acclaimed and well known record, but the EP and Maelstrom are both straight up metalcore records. I’d say Waking the Fallen is missing but I know how you feel about that record : P |
FearThyEvil
04.24.24 | I like Employed to Serve, just not enough to make this list and I enjoy Oathbreaker as well. Still a few groups here and there I might add on this later to push it to 100 but we'll see. |
VlacDrac
04.24.24 | "I'll be honest, wasn't expecting LOG to get the most discussion on whether they're metalcore or not when Daughters, Breach, etc are on here"
That's a good point, lol. |
Hawks
04.24.24 | I fucking love LOG and always have. Saw them live a few years ago and they slayed ahrd. |
VlacDrac
04.24.24 | I've always wanted to see them. I was a huge fan up until Wrath. Then I stopped caring about their newest albums, however, I've always wanted to see them live. |
FearThyEvil
04.24.24 | Seen em three times live at one of my favorite venues in Philly. Fan or not, they're always a good time. |
ShapeOfJizzToCum
04.24.24 | When I'm just looking for some token riffy catchy metalcore bullshit I do honestly enjoy some older LOG or KSE. Also respect to both bands for how tightly they play live. |
jrlikestodance
04.24.24 | I'm with you Vlac, Lamb of God especially back in the day are a metalcore band. Tbh, I have a list of metal bands that are honorary hardcore bands based on their music lol |
Demon of the Fall
04.24.24 | the difference in quality vs the other mcx lists recently is >
i.e. v good list, tons of great stuff here!
I've been getting into Harlots recently so nice to see them present. Still need to check that album tho.
I'm definitely missing a decent few, so could do with checking them out if the rest of the list is anything to go by |
SmurkinGherkin
04.24.24 | The streets remember Johnny Truant |
autosacrifice
04.24.24 | man I need to check out a bunch of these. Snapcase is dope so far |
frozencarl
04.24.24 | a life once lost mentioned lfg |
FearThyEvil
04.24.24 | think i'm going to finish this up to 100 albums |
Scoot
04.24.24 | etched in red - dylate
has some big jams |
Uzumaki
04.25.24 | Another lovely list.
Keep that metalcore torch held proudly aloft! |
Emim
04.26.24 | Sweet fancy Moses I love this list |
FearThyEvil
04.26.24 | lol appreciate the love Emim. I'll be filling out the bottom 20 some point and finishing this at even 100 |
VlacDrac
04.26.24 | Thoughts on Dyingrace? |
FearThyEvil
04.26.24 | never listened to them so i'll give em a go and maybe they'll end up here. |
Emim
04.26.24 | My only quibble is no Phinehas or Scarlet |
Emim
04.26.24 | Oh or Living Sacrifice or Chimaira |
FearThyEvil
04.26.24 | Scarlet will be one of the additional 20 I add. Never was big on the others though. |
BAT
04.26.24 | list is banger after banger. i'm also shocked someone remembered the psyke project, fairly ahead of its time. i need to give darkest hour a revisit, i saw them live without really knowing any of their stuff and just never got around to it |
Emim
04.26.24 | "Never was big on the others though."
I cry 😢 |
Trebor.
04.26.24 | Pretty good list |
Ladron93
04.27.24 | 10 and 14 were my thing back in 2009. Then that EP of Disembodied took me over in 2011. |
Middle18
04.28.24 | Great list my man Great list!
Love nearly all these but especially Zao,Vision of disorder,Poison the well,Hopesfall Johnny Truant and Shai hulud here.
But how about Chimaira, God Forbid and Wage War? |
FearThyEvil
06.06.24 | I will at some point update this to reach 100 so stay tuned. Could be awhile from now though as I still gotta figure out who makes it and also listen to some records that I have yet to hear. |
Mort.
06.06.24 | wtf how did i miss this. great list
need to revisit misery signals. listened to them before i really had a system of setting up playlists, so i think i checked them out and then never added any of their stuff to any playlists and basically have no memory of any of their albums except their debut (which is in my opinion one of the few excellent melodic metalcore records) |
Flugmorph
06.06.24 | great list, I'm coincidentally in a bit of a metalcore phase right now, definitely need to check misery signals. |
Mort.
06.06.24 | 'war from a harlots mouth - voyeur' is a cool pick. i really love the sound that they went for on that album, ive seen people describe it as ulcerate-core (not sure how accurate that is, havent heard much ulcerate). but yeah the dark sort of dissonant vibe on that album is sick. i just always thought the songwriting was a bit meh except for Vertigo which is a 10/10 and that bands crowning achievement. that track goes incredibly hard
architects - ruin. Yeah your assessment of that band is dead on. such a shame they got so fucking formulaic and boring. really dropped off after Hollow Crown
daughters - self titled. Honestly i get including this. the band always toured with grind/metalcore bands and grew up in that scene and this album has a lot of big crunchy skronkin moments that are wrapped up in noise rock sheen but metalcore structurally. Hell Songs also has loads of moments like that (and that whole album is basically panic chords + chugs +skronks taken to a ridiculous degree)
|
Mort.
06.06.24 | literally listened to The Blinding Light - Ascension for the first time today. sick album, very much looking forward to giving it a few more spins over the next week.
'Fear before - the always open mouth' - yeah i love this album, 5/5, deffo not too much metalcore but you can certainly see it on tracks like Drowning the Old Hag. wish theyd fucking come back
'ken mode - entrench' - havent heard this one but i love the more recent metalcoreish stuff (that Loved album is straight up metalcore/hardocre imo and probs their best)
Narrows - i relistened to both of this bands albums last week and i think theyre mad underrated (the ep is good aswell, as is the split with retox). they have such a dark and brooding atmosphere that daves vocals really suit |
VlacDrac
06.06.24 | Now, this is a great list. |
FearThyEvil
06.07.24 | I might say fuck it and just do a part 2 because I have a feeling it'll be a decent amount. It's more favorite metalcore bands where I'm picking the best album from their discog imo. Obviously if I did albums realistically I'd have multiple picks from a good number of these groups. |
VlacDrac
06.07.24 | Do it |
FearThyEvil
06.07.24 | Mort, definitely check Entrenched because it rips. There's a track featuring Botch's vocalist on it. Promises of God
Edit: I'm a moron and already said that in the description lol |
Mort.
06.07.24 | i will get to it, i plan on doing ken modes discography (just slowly) |
Uzumaki
06.07.24 | “I might say fuck it and just do a part 2…”
